Osprey Church Cemetery

Serving Osprey for over a century, our cemetery has provided a peaceful and reverent resting place for loved ones. The land behind our church buildings was originally deeded to First Baptist Church of Osprey by Bertha Honore Palmer in 1914, and we continue to care for it as a ministry to our community.

Serving Osprey for over a century, our cemetery continues to provide a well-kept, reverent resting place for loved ones. Below are answers to common questions about burial rights, policies, and processes.

Who can reserve graves in the Osprey Cemetery? ▾
Active members of First Baptist Church of Osprey and/or permanent residents of Osprey may reserve graves. Contact the church office for an application.
Is there a fee for reserving a grave? ▾
Yes. A burial rights fee applies for reserving a grave for full-body burial or the interment of cremated remains. Contact the cemetery committee for current fee information.
Do I receive a deed when I pay the burial rights fee? ▾
No. A burial rights fee grants the right to be buried in the reserved space; it does not transfer ownership of the land. The cemetery grounds remain the property and responsibility of Osprey Cemetery.
Who can use the grave(s) I reserve? Can I change the assigned name? ▾
The grave may be used by the original owner or their immediate family (spouse, dependent children, or dependent grandchildren). If you need to change the name assigned to a grave, notify the cemetery committee. Please also report any change of address so records remain up to date.
Can I sell my grave? ▾
No. Selling or transferring graves is not permitted. If you no longer need your reserved grave(s), they may be donated back to the cemetery.
Can I bequeath my grave to someone outside my immediate family? ▾
No. Graves may only be used by the original owner and their immediate family members.
If I have cremated remains, can I bury them myself? ▾
No. All graves must be opened and closed by a professional service provider authorized by the cemetery.
Do I need to purchase a burial vault? ▾
Yes. A burial vault is required for all burials.
Must my grave have a headstone or marker? ▾
Yes. Every grave must have a marker or headstone not exceeding 36 inches in height.
